You don’t have to live in pain any longer. When doctors are in pain, this is what they do!
Have you suffered with a sports injury? Maybe your neck and back are painful and stiff from sitting in front of your computer 5 days a week? Perhaps you’re recovering after surgery and want to heal as quickly as possible.
“After a nasty ankle injury I was back on my feet and feeling betterwithin 4 weeks after visiting the Wyndham Centre!”
From the desk of Alison Wyndham, M.C.S.P. Grad. Dip. Phys.
We all suffer with aches and pains from time to time. Discomfort and not being able to move can stop us doing the things we enjoy in life.
The problem is when we go to see the doctors they rarely offer a solution. Usually it’s just the same old prescription of strong pain killers, anti inflammatory drugs and some rest at home, usually on your back! Unfortunately this doesn’t treat the underlying problems allowing the body to heal itself naturally. Without addressing the real problems, you are at risk of developing a dependency on pain killers which, combined with poor posture and lack of exercise, could allow your pain and discomfort to get worse. Return visits to the doctor only lead to one thing – stronger pain killers. If you’re really lucky and have a forward thinking GP they may eventually refer you to a Physiotherapist, but by then more damage has been done.
Physiotherapy offers another way to get you fit and healthy again. As your long-term pain and discomfort begin to subside you’ll find that your motivation for activity quickly returns. You’ll be able to get back into your favourite sport and exercise, as well as activities you find difficult and uncomfortable at present like gardening, driving and even going out with friends.
One of our recent clients, a keen squash player, came to visit us recently after suffering a painful ankle injury whilst playing. After 4 physiotherapy sessions, she was quickly up and running again, finding her confidence to return to the sport. Before treatment she would expect to rest for at least 2 months before being active again, but with some specifically targeted sessions along with easy-to-follow exercises this was slashed in half.
Physiotherapy works by aiming to make sure the body is functioning properly. The body is an excellent healer, providing it’s given the opportunity to work it’s magic. This is where physiotherapy comes in. As well as treating a specific injury or illness, we’ll work with you to help you consider ways to improve your general well-being and quality of life to accelerate the healing process.
Our treatment is hands on and exercise based. Some of the treatments we use to help you feel better include:
- Manipulation
- Mobilisation
- Massage
- Acupuncture
- Stretching
- Posture correction
- Core stability exercise
We like to take a holistic approach (looking at the body as a whole rather than focusing on individual factors) to an injury or disease. For example, back pain can be caused by a number of factors including posture, diet, exercise and work. You’ll be amazed at the results small changes can make!
Visiting us isn’t like visiting the doctor. We practice from welcoming, easy to get to clinics based in London and Hertfordshire. On your first visit we’ll take you through everything that’s involved and carry out an individual assessment. This will be carried out by one of our fully qualified chartered physiotherapists who’ll use a range of skills to identify what the real cause of your problem is. Based around your initial examination we’ll prepare a personalised treatment plan with information on exercise and treatments that will give you the understanding you need to return to life without discomfort.
